In this series of posts i’ll document the success (or otherwise) of growing 3 varieties of sunflowers in May.
The 3 varieties are:
Sutton’s Fun to Grow: Bird Table Flower (Titan) - Height: 3.5m

Thompson & Morgan: High Hopes - Height: 3.5 - 4.5m

Mr Fothergills’s Sunflower Kong F1 - Height: 4.2m

I’ll be starting them off in pots and later transferring into the garden.
To germinate the seeds i’m just using soil from the garden from one of the vegetable beds. The soil in this bed is in need of some enrichment, so is probably not the best for geminating seeds, but we’ll see how it goes.
Below are some photos of the seed packets.

As you can see from the comparison photos below, the seeds look completely different to each other. The largest by far are the High Hopes variety from Thompson & Morgan.

After a good watering the seeds have been transferred to a heated garden office. I’ll try to keep the seeds at around 18 - 20 degrees celsius. Lets see how they grow.
Over the coming weeks i’ll update on their progress. Subscribe below so you’ll be notified when new posts appear.
